3-day hut tour - moderately difficult alternative route stage 2

3-day hut tour - moderately difficult alternative route stage 2

Description

From the Gaudeamushütte, follow trail 812/813 in the direction of "Ellmauer Tor". Hike in serpentines through mountain pines to the junction with the Wilden-Kaiser-Steig. At the "Jubiläumssteig" junction, follow trail 812 to the right over the scree field (Kübelkar). After a rocky steep section (partly secured with steel cables), the trail continues over further scree fields and a final rocky section to the Ellmauer Tor, 1,980 metres. Enjoy the views of the rock faces of Karlspitzen, Fleischbank and Preditgtstuhl.
Return along the same route to the junction with the Klammlweg. Here, turn right onto path 813/824 in the direction of Gruttenhütte via Klammlweg (approx. 1 h). The narrow path, which leads through the steep but fascinating Klamml, is secured with a ladder and some iron clamps (surefootedness and a head for heights are a prerequisite! Beware of the risk of falling rocks from the via ferrata! No via ferrata set is required for the moderately difficult Klammlweg).
Enjoy the fantastic view of the "Wild Castle", an impressive, legendary rock massif with towers, peaks, caves and balconies and the eastern peaks of the Wilder Kaiser.
After a few hairpin bends, you reach the Gruttenhütte (1,620 m), the highest in the Wilder Kaiser, situated on a rocky ridge, with a beautiful sun terrace and a view of the Ellmauer Halt, the highest peak at 2,344 metres. On a clear day you can enjoy fantastic views of the main Alpine ridge and the Großglockner.
